Privacy Policy
We at StudentOasis are dedicated to protecting the privacy of our visitors. We do not collect personally identifiable information about you that is not voluntarily given to us. Other, non-personally identifiable information will be collected from you just by virtue of your visiting our web site. We exercise care to ensure that the personally identifiable information you may provide to us is kept confidential. We restrict access to this type of information to our employees, who are made aware of and are committed to our privacy and security policies, and we do not share your personally identifiable information with third parties except in the narrow circumstances described below.
We review our privacy practices from time to time, and those practices are therefore subject to change. The date appearing on the top of this Privacy Policy will indicate the last date on which changes were made. We ask that you periodically review this page to ensure continuing familiarity with the most current version of our Privacy Policy.
Feel free to e-mail us at privacy@studentoasis.com about web site privacy issues, to report a violation of our Privacy Policy, or to raise any other issue. But remember, whenever you send us or anyone a message by e-mail, the message will not be encrypted during transmission. So, it may be viewed and accessed by other Internet users without your knowledge or permission.
The information we gather.
StudentOasis gathers two types of information about visitors to our web site:
1. Non-personally identifiable information: When visitors come to our web site, we collect and aggregate information indicating, among other things, which pages were visited, the order in which they were visited, and how often they were visited. Collecting this kind of information involves the logging of the IP address and the operating system and browser software used by each visitor to the StudentOasis web site. Although this information is not personally identifiable, we can determine from the IP address a visitor's Internet Service Provider and the approximate geographic location of his or her point of connectivity.
The non-personally identifiable information we collect helps us to identify the most popular areas of our web site and to determine how effective our promotions and other similar activities are. This is the extent to which non-personally identifiable information is available to us.
For the same purposes, we use "cookies" - that is, small text files placed on your computer's hard drive - to help us determine the type of content and sites to which you link, the length of time you spend at any particular area of the site, and the services you choose to use. Cookies also tell us which advertising you have seen on our site. Cookies allow us to serve you better and more efficiently, and to personalize your experience at the StudentOasis web site. Nevertheless, you will always be free to decline our cookies if your browser permits; although, in that case, you may not be able to use certain features on our site and you may be required to re-enter your password more frequently during a session. For more information on how to control cookies, please refer to the documentation accompanying your browser.
2. Personally identifiable information: If you wish to become a StudentOasis member and enjoy the full benefits of our web site, you will be asked to enter certain personal information about yourself on the membership application. For instance, we ask that you provide us with your name and e-mail address so that we can verify your identity for membership and contest purposes, etc., and we ask for your age and date of birth so that we can make sure that you are of legal age to participate in our services, contests, and marketing efforts. Most of this information can be provided at your option, as you are only required to give us your e-mail address and other required information on our membership questionnaire (denoted by an asterisk) in order to become a member. The more personally identifiable information you give us, however, the better we can personalize your StudentOasis experience.
Children.
We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you are not 13, while you may visit our site, you may not become a member and we ask that you do not furnish us with any personally identifiable information.
Third-party web sites.
The StudentOasis web site contains links to other Internet web sites[, including co-branded or other affiliated sites, or to other Internet web sites] which we may or may not own or operate. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of any of those web sites, including their use of any information (such as IP number, browser type, or operating system) that is collected when visitors to the StudentOasis web site click through links to those sites or link to the StudentOasis web site through those other sites. This Privacy Policy only addresses our use and disclosure of the information we collect from you. To the extent you disclose your personal information on other web sites, even those to which you have linked through the StudentOasis web site, different rules may apply to their use or disclosure of that information to third parties. We do not control the privacy practices of those sites. We therefore strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with the privacy practices and customs of any web site controlled by a third party before disclosing your personal information on that site.
Deleting/deactivating personal information.
If you provide us with personally identifiable information and would like that information removed from our database, please contact us at profiles@studentoasis.com and we will use reasonable efforts to comply with your request. Keep in mind, however, that there will be residual information that will remain within the StudentOasis databases, access logs, and other records, which may or may not contain your personally identifiable information. This residual information will not be used for commercial purposes.
Limited disclosure.
We reserve the right to release information contained within our access logs concerning any visitor when that visitor partakes (or is reasonably suspected of partaking) in any illegal activity, as required by law, court order, or as requested by other government or law enforcement authority. We will cooperate with law enforcement agencies in identifying those who may be using our servers or services for illegal activities. We reserve the right to report any suspected illegal activity to law enforcement for investigation or prosecution.
We also reserve the right to transfer your personally identifiable information to a third party as part of a sale or other disposition of all or substantially all of the assets of StudentOasis, provided that the transferee agrees to treat such personally identifiable information in a manner consistent with the terms of this Privacy Policy.
